WSL JURAKI TEAMS CHALLENGE 2019
"Surf and Culture builds strong community,"
- Joel Slabb.
On April 2nd, 2019, eight of our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Surfers were given the opportunity to once again, surf in the WSL Juraki Teams Challenge to open the surfing season and the Quicksilver/Boost Pro at Duranbah on the Gold Coast.
Juraki Surf Culture have partnered with 2012 World Champ Joel Parkinson and WSL to run this event since 2016, show casing Junior Indigenous Surfing in Australia. The event began with a traditional welcome to country by the Coodjinburra Dancers. Local school kids were invited to attend the event with community welcome to come along and cheer on the surfers.
The Indigenous surfers were paired with pro surfers to surf in a teams event. A moment in time that these surfers will never forget.
Juraki would like to Thank Joel Parkinson, WSL and Surfing QLD for making this event a success, the pro surfers involved for taking their time to surf, share the waves and mentor our young surfers and the Juraki Surf Team for being part of this amazing event.
Congratulations to all surfers.
